ABOUT BURMA TEAK WOOD
Teak is also called Tectona grandis which is a tropical hardwood kind. Teak wood tree is a large tree that happens in diverse hardwood jungles. It has slight, aromatic white buds and papery leaves that are every so often hairy on the lower part. It is occasionally known as the “Burmese Teak “. Teak wood has a leather-like smell when it is freshly cut.
This Teak wood comes from Myanmar with an extensive range of grading hails. Burma region accounts for around one third of the world’s total teak wood production. Loose soil and high water content in soil makes the teak tree grow faster due to high silicate available in the soil.
Color of Burma teak wood is Moderate to dark golden brown with straight lines.
Characteristics of Burma Teak Wood
- It has a very good fiber structure and a good oil content in the wood which gives it a pleasant look and no odor. The cut Burma teak log contains moisture of around 45-55%
- The typical mean circumference of the teak log is between 75 cm – 240 cm and diameter of upto 120 cm.
- The usual length is around 300 cm – 900 cm depending on the age and growth rate of the Burma teak timber.
- Sawing yield is up to 95% whilst milling as around 5% is wastage which can be further used for plain wooden beading
- The Burma teak timber grows tall and has straight lines with good natural grains.
Application of Burma Teak Wood
- This Burma teak wood is mainly used for hardwood doors, windows, door and window frames and shutters.
- It is also used in boat building, decking, Cabinet making, carvings, flooring, furniture, paneling, parquet flooring, plywood, posts, train track ties (sleepers), tool handles, toys, turnery, vats, vehicle parts, veneer and more…
